TALKING CLIMATE CHANGE WITH THE PUBLIC
Youth on Climate Change: A Guide to Being Heard, Engaging the Public and
Telling Our Story
The COP Messaging Guide was first created by a team of international youth as a
user-friendly tool for youth participants at the November 2005 UN Conference on
Climate Change. Co-facilitated by Citizens for Global Solutions and
SustainUS,
the youth team identified two main themes, some sample talking points, and some
important communications tips for young people communicating on climate change.
Based on the experience of youth activists and the suggestions outlined in
U.S. in the World: Talking Global Issues
with Americans, the COP Messaging Guide became the basis for an
ambitious youth communications strategy at the Conference that included a number
of press conferences, public events, blog entries, and news articles.
Though the Guide was originally designed for youth, anyone working to promote
farsighted and responsible climate policy – young or old – will find it
exceptionally useful.
